New Frontiers
For the first time at Starwood, we are pleased to welcome Jay Stevens, author of Storming Heaven: LSD and the American Experience, and co-author of Drumming at the Edge of Magic with Grateful Dead percussionist Mickey Hart. Another newcomer is David Jay Brown, author of the science-fiction novel Brainchild, and co-author of Mavericks of the Mind and Voices From the Edge. We are also joined by presidential candidate (!) Stephen Gaskin, founder of The Farm (America's biggest hippie commune) and the world-wide charitable organization Plenty International, and author of Haight-Ashbury Flashbacks, This Season's People, and Cannabis Spirituality. We welcome Laurel Hopwood of the Sierra Club and Michael W. Fox of the Humane Society to discuss bio-engineered food, and our legal expert Ron Epstein will talk about laws concerning men and plants, from controlled substances to herbal remedies. With Chameleon Joseph Rothenberg, co-director of the Association for Consciousness Exploration, we'll experience Mind-Machines. And the irreverent Rev. Ivan Stang, author of High Weirdness by Mail and co-author of The Book of the SubGenius and Revelation X, brings us the sacred Word of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs and the Church of the SubGenius, the only religion to make the End of the World an annual event!

Magic & Spirit
Let's welcome Patricia Telesco, author of numerous books including Folkways, Goddess in My Pocket, and Spinning Spells: Weaving Wonders to her first Starwood. Donald Michael Kraig, author of Modern Magick and Modern Sex Magick, returns to Starwood after several years. Patricia Monaghan, author of several books including The New Book of Goddesses and Heroines, O Mother Sun, and The Goddess Path will join us, as well as author and ritualist Diana L. Paxson, Philip H. Farber (FutureRitual), Nema (Maat Magick), Laurence Galian (Beyond Duality), Tantric healer Felicia Swayne, Shawn Eyer (The Lyre: Greek Spiritual Traditions), and Daniel Harms and John Wisdom Gonce III (Necronomicon Files).

We’ll also feature Isaac Bonewits, author of Real Magic and founder of Ar nDraiocht Fein; John "Fox" Adelman, the present archdruid of ADF, Bill Elston of ADF, and Elders of Stone Creed Grove and Chameleons Ian Corrigan and Liafal. From the Church of All Worlds we welcome Ronn Walks With Fire, Chameleon Larry Cornett, and Anodea Judith, author of Wheels of Life and Eastern Body, Western Mind. And from the New Orleans VooDoo Temple come Priestess Mombo Miriam, Louis Martinié.

Other Magical speakers include Richard Kaczynski PhD, Kenneth Deigh, Eliesheva, Sylvia Brallier, Lyrus Landholder, Oxun Olukari Al’aye, Aaron Moss, Jimi Two Feathers, Don & Daniella Waterhawk, and Mishlen Linden.

Healing & Movement
A variety of healing arts and systems of dance, movement and life choice will be explored as well. Billy Woods (of the new band Infinitia) will present classes in Chi Gung, and Jim Klar of Cleveland Aikikai will teach Aikido. Laurence Galian will lead us in Sufi Dancing, and Don and Daniella Waterhawk will offer the Tslagi Dance of Life. Dana L. Piper combines various massage and hands-on techniques to teach Therapuetic Massage, Djenaba will teach Conscious Stretching and Aerobic Invocation, and Anodea Judith will lead Nude Partner Yoga. Aaron Moss will teach about Plant Spirit Medicine, and classes on Beginning Yoga, Tai Chi, and various Magickal healing techniques involving, for instance, crystals, oghams or dreams will also be explored. Joseph Rothenberg plans to facilitate both the Faerie Community Meeting and the Annual Faerie Circle.

Maimu Alber will offer classes on recovery-related issues, and provide a Safe-Space for those who would like a temptation-free area, complete with daily 12-step meetings. The first meeting will be on Tuesday at 6PM at the Healers' Row Fire Circle where we will establish a web of support for the week at Starwood. Arts, Crafts, Music & Dance
Catherine Cartwright Jones will teach the Batik art of Salt-Dying silk scarves and banners, and explore both the history and practice of Sacred Henna Tatooing. Priestess Mombo Miriam will discuss Ritual Flags, Green Crown's Jim Barleycorn will teach Feadog (pennywhistle) and Violet Rose will teach Celtic Art, and Kirk McLaren on tarot casters and other magical tools and talismans. Several dance styles will be explored, from contact improvisation by Young Park of S.A.F.M.O.D. to belly dancing and trance-dancing, and theatre for stage and ritual. Musical instruments will be shared, from didgeridoo by Jason Gazda to Irish/Celtic instrument demonstration by members of Lia Fail, and Chas. Smith of Einstein's Secret Orchestra will bring his electronic keyboards and theremin to explore.

And what would Starwood be without drumming? Jay Stevens, co-author of Drumming at the Edge of Magic, will share his insights on Rhythms. Louis Martinié of the New Orleans Voodoo Temple will lead classes in their styles, and both Whitedeer of Green Crown and Neil Chastain of S.A.F.M.O.D. will share drumming techniques. Morwen Two Feathers of Earth Drum Council will offer a Polyrhythmic Path to Ecstacy, and Oxun Olukari Al'aye will introduce us to the Yoruba Bembe ritual. And Alex & Joy Wedmedyk of Earth Rhythm will teach both drum making and repair.

The Next Generation
We've planned a full and growing schedule of fun for our young people, including Co-Op Child Care (ages 5 and under), Kid Village (6-10), Youth Group (11-14), and Young Adults (15-17), with classes, rituals, and a parade (bring costumes or supplies if you like).
