the 2002 starwood festival - july 23-28, 2002 - brushwood folklore center

As if Starwood wasn't enough, we just wanted to make you aware of some of the highlights and opportunities that the resort community of Chautauqua has to offer. Sherman is located in the Western portion of the County, approx. 20 minutes west of Chautauqua Lake, and the famous Chautauqua Institute - chautauqua-inst.org or today.ciweb.org.

There are many Bed & Breakfasts and small ho/motels in the area for those who prefer not to camp, and for those camping at Brushwood, it's possible to do so comfortably and in style with a little careful planning and capital expenditure.

In addition to the limited but good on-site food facilities and local markets, restaurants and fine dining are plentiful in the region. We've whipped up a few suggestions for you here.

There are many notable natural features in the area including scenic Paname Rocks, only minutes from Starwood - panamarocks.com

Here's a quick map of the area, but use maps.yahoo.com or mapquest.com for local navigation.

The red star indicates Sherman, NY, and the two major roads used to get to most attractions are 430 (main street through Sherman) and Interstate 86, which you probably used to get there in the first place. 430 curves around the far side of the lake, and 394 is the route following the west side of the Lake.

From Sherman to the Chautaqua Bridge (I-86) is about 15 minutes.
