Starwood Festival XXIII 22-27 July 2003 - Sherman, NY

Baka Beyond

This year’s Starwood has all the tremendous entertainment you’ve come to expect featuring Baka Beyond, the original African/Celtic crossover band, and their unique upbeat acoustic dance music. Top musicians from six countries in West and Central Africa and the Celtic fringes of Europe bring their uplifting mix of beautiful harmonies and exciting rhythms to Starwood. With songs imported from the African rainforest via Brittany, Cornwall and the Outer Hebrides, there’s no other band like them.

and beyond...

Returning again this year is Irish party band Gaelic Storm and their dynamic stage show featuring rousing, upbeat vocals, wild energetic dance tunes, and madcap humor. Plus the Flamencadelic sounds of Alma Melodiosa, Middle Eastern Groove inspired Janah, and the electrified mind-blowing violin virtuosity of Stratospheerius. This is the one Starwood you can’t afford to miss!

Can't get enough?

Oba Ka So
(Shango and the Tower)

The Pyrosonic crew will entertain you with displays of pyres and fires noise and joys, dark and spark, to the accompaniment of a new original electronic soundtrack by Ron Slabe. Join us as they examine the myth of Shango, his relationship to the Tower card of the Tarot, and the dangers of playing with lightning.

Ron Slabe has been making electronic music since the late seventies, and has been creating and participating in performance art almost as long. His work has been featured at the Cleveland Performance Art Festival and at Cleveland Public Theatre, the Psychedelicatessen, and small and large venues around Northeast Ohio. He has performed regularly at ACE events since 1986 beginning with the first MusicStar Festival, and he has been the primary performer and mastermind of the StarWood Island Multi-Media Show since 1991. [Friday Late]
