Joy Wedmedyk

Joy Wedmedyk (Iyalocha Omi Lasa) has studied mediumship, divination, symbolism, and shamanism for over 35 years. She is an initiated Priestess of Yemaya in Regla de Ocha (Santeria), an initiate of the Wolf Clan Teaching Lodge and in other Native American and African Shamanic Traditions. She is a nationally recognized teacher, medium, drum maker, and shamanic artist. In 1991 Joy and her husband Alex co-founded Earth Rhythm, a company dedicated to bringing drums and drumming to community. They have taught hundreds of people how to craft and play their own drums. Joy was a quoted source for the book Drawing Down the Spirits by Kenaz Filan and Raven Caldera. Joy is a regular presenter at the Starwood Festival, and has also presented at Earth Warriors Festival, Wisteria Solstice Gathering, Sacred Harvest Festival, Heartland Pagan Festival, Convocation MI, Sirius Rising, Summerfest, Cleveland Pagan Pride, LilyDale Assembly, Universal Light Expo, Pagan Spirit Gathering, Michigan Pagan Fest, and many other gatherings and events throughout the United States.

Joy is a contributing author to the anthology book Walking the Path of the Ancient Ways, just released from Black Moon Press.

A Guide to Initiation

Learn how to create a meaningful and effective ritual for Rites of Passage. We will cover the basic components of initiatory rituals, the most common initiatory styles and the importance of all the roles that are played out by community during the ritual. This class will give practical advice and expose common pitfalls that can occur in initiatory settings.

Drum Making: Shamans Peace Drum (14 inch hoop)

Indigenous people around the world have used Hoop Drums to commune with spirit and bring healing and wholeness to the self and the community. Journey with others on this sacred path and create your own deer rawhide drum from start to finish along with a leather-covered beater. We will begin with a ceremony to connect us to the deer spirit and to the universal rhythms of life. We will conclude with a blessing ceremony to honor the power of our Drum. At the end of this class, you will not only have a consecrated Shamanic hoop drum made by your own hand, but all the skills to make one again! This is a 2-day workshop. What is Santeria?

This is an overview of the Lucumi Tradition of Ifa, commonly referred to as Santeria. It will cover the basic beliefs (including ancestor reverence), the Gods, the forces of nature (Orisha), divination, healing and initiations. There will be time set aside for questions and answers.
