Miguel Sague III

Miguel Sague III is an Afro-Cuban drummer (Conga) who has been playing Latin percussion professionally for 25 years. He founded Guaracha, one of Pittsburgh's all-time greatest Salsa bands, and is the charismatic front man. They perform original Salsas, Merengues, and Reggaeton, as well as new Latin covers. Guaracha has recently appeared at the following venues: Cozumel, Pittsburgh's First Night, Three Rivers Arts Festival, Wilkinsburg Community Day, and the Pittsburgh Public School System. They have played on the Seminar at Sea, touring Latin America, and they are featured on a television commercial for Cozumel Mexican Restaurant. Miguel has played with Afro-Cuban star Lazaro Ross, and fronts one of Pittsburgh's finest Mariachi groups, (Miguel's Mariachi Fiesta), a charming Cuban Conjunto, (Miguel's Latino Moods), and one of the hottest Caribbean Steel Drum bands in the three rivers area (Miguel's Caribbean Nights).

Afro-Cuban Percussion

This workshop includes instruction in the Afro Cuban technique of claves, maracas, guiro, cow bell, and congas. The ancient styles that are used on these instruments have influenced the course of American music for hundreds of years. I can illustrate African, Native American and Spanish contributions to the development of these instruments and some of their useful spiritual applications as well. Definitely suitable for kids!
