Josh Sherman

A Cleveland, Ohio native, Josh is a hand percussionist who specializes in Tabla and East-Indian rhythms. He has studied privately with numerous teachers including several of the leading Tabla masters, and has spent the most time studying from very well-reputed tabla players Jim Feist and Pradip Ghosh, who he has also had the honor to perform with on multiple occasions. He currently performs solo as well as with several groups, and has performed with a wide variety of musicians and dancers of many different styles from around the world, utilizing the versatility of Indian rhythmic concepts to accompany anything from Bluegrass, to West African dance and drumming, to Anatolian Gypsy Flamenco, to Vietnamese Ca Tru music, and many more.

Performance venues of note include Starwood Festival, Severance Hall, House of Blues, Cain Park, Ingenuity Fest, Tri-C Jazz Fest, Parade the Circle, and Cleveland Museum of Art. Josh has also developed a method of transmitting Indian rhythmic concepts to musicians of varying styles, levels, and instruments, and has conducted workshops for all ages on Indian Rhythm Theory and other drumming related topics for Starwood Festival, Ingenuity Fest, and for many Passport Project programs. He is also a trustee of ICMS (Indian Classical Music Society) Cleveland, which organizes local performances and workshops in the Cleveland area by some of the leading touring classical North Indian musicians.
