Live Action Role Playing

LARP Laws Storytelling | Rules | Characters | Joining
One

Maintain the Masquerade
"When all of society wears a mask, how can one confront it with a bare face?" -Matt Wagner, Devil by the Deed
Your actions must not betray to the mortal population that you are involved in a game. Every character in these events has some motivation to remain covert. It is unlikely that any players will be burned at the stake for their involvement, however it is within the realm of possibility that if someone gets out of hand one could be asked to leave the grounds. Don't let this happen to you!

Two

Respect Players and non-players alike
"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!" Last words of the bandito in Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The Rule is: Badges on, in-character; badges off, out-of-character. Don't bother someone with Pooka schtick when she's in the Bardic Circle. No one is to be harassed while he/she is involved in another event. Don't touch anyone. Leave strangers alone. The Dealer's Ally is considered Elysium, hallowed ground or whatever else you want to call it. There will be no challenges in this area of any kind. No one will be dragged out of this area for a trump call, summoning, psychic distress call or any other reason.

Three

Don't get carried away
I did not die; I was merely Acting! -SNL, Master Thespian
No stunts. Refrain from doing anything in the course of an interactive event that you wouldn't mind repeating in front of a judge.

Four

Don't lose your head
Revenge is a dish best served cold -Ancient Klingon Proverb
Remember that this is a game, and only a game. You may get very frustrated by the duplicity and underhandedness of someone else within the game. You may get torn up, staked through the heart, have your blood sucked out, double crossed, or more mercifully, killed. And that's just by one of the narrators! If you find yourself in a rotten situation, take a few deep breaths, remember that it's only a game, and remain calm. If you still live, plot your revenge. If you get killed, remember that you have three incarnations. Mourn the death of the old character but do not waste your playing time avenging the old one. Try to see the game from a new perspective and immerse yourself in the new persona. Come see a narrator if you feel that you have been cheated in some way.

Five

No Running
"You must never run from anything immortal; it only draws their attention." -The Last Unicorn
You've got time -- take it slow. Drawing attention to yourself by running could cause the consequences listed in the first law. Besides, it's generally a breach of character.

Six

Stick to the policies of Starwood and the laws of the land.
"When in Rome, do as the Romans do." -Anonymous
We strongly recommend that you refrain from the use of alcohol and other intoxicants during your roleplaying experience. These things do not lend themselves to peak performance. You will be cheating yourself of the full "high" that results from the game itself.

No storytelling will take place off the Brushwood grounds.

Disputes

The Narrator is the ultimate authority.
"It is an academic, though valid philosophical question, as to whether one with power over shadow could create his own universe. Whatever the ultimate answer, from a practical point we could." -Roger Zelazny, Nine Princes in Amber
The game you are involved in is not based on democracy. It falls to someone to be the ultimate authority over disputes that are bound to arise. The various narrators who can be identified by their special badge are the only ones well versed enough in the game system to judge all situations. Pleading that their decision doesn't match your vision or your interpretation of the rules doesn't wash. If you feel that an injustice has been dealt you, seek out your humble Storyteller, if you are still unsatisfied, please accept our apologies and move on.
