This area contains two sections:

Brushwood Folklore Center
our festival site, is 180 acres of majestic woodlands and rolling meadows, with a large pond that has a center island. This amazing site keeps growing and changing! In addition to the beautiful pool pavilion with its spacious hot tub and hot showers, "Downtown Brushwood" now includes a 24 hour food court, a mini hardware store, an information booth, and other structures. More hot showers and flush toilets at the Bath House add to our comfort.

There are a lot of Amish in this area so please be careful when passing horse-drawn carts on the roads.

We also ask folks to please TONE DOWN WHEN IN TOWN. You should still wear your Starwood ID tag, but try not to wear overtly medieval garb, cloaks, robes, or revealing clothing.

About The Site

This is a semi-developed camping facility (no RV hook-ups). Sorry, NO DOGS allowed at Starwood. Bring safe lighting sources, and grills or campstoves if you plan to cook. There are several wells on the site, providing plenty of drinkable water, so bring a canteen or jug for your camp. Around the field are many wooded areas for shady camping, but the windy field requires sturdy camping equipment. July nights in New York State are often cold! Bring warm clothing and extra blankets. But the days are glorious, and Brushwood is a clothing optional site EXCEPT in the areas directly visible from the road or where indicated by signs.

There are no cabins or indoor lodging facilities at Brushwood, however, there are motels and Bed & Breakfasts in the area. Please contact Brushwood for more information at (716) 761-6750 or brushwood1@aol.com

Admissions will be closed each night between 1AM and 8AM. Plan to arrive outside these hours or contact us to make prior arrangements.

Our parking area is located at the front of the site. Vehicles must be parked there once loaded. If your vehicle absolutely must stay on site, special arrangements MUST be made when you check in. For your privacy and security, you must sign a waiver and receive your Starwood XVII pendant to wear throughout the event. Parents of small children will be given a KidSafe form to attach to the outside of your tent, so we can find you on site if necessary.

A.C.E. will be videotaping some selected presentations for our archives. These tapings will be noted on the program, and will include only the presentation, not the attendees. This does not relax our long standing policy banning any photography without the knowledge and consent of those photographed.

Bring your radios and boom boxes, because Radio Starwood will be on the air! Our own site-wide FM stereo transmitter and Chameleon Club and SubGenius DJs will provide festival info and schedule changes over YOUR radio, along with music, comedy, interviews and insanity to tickle your fancy and melt your mind.

WORK DONATION: We ask that all attendees donate a minimum of two hours of their time to help the festival run smoothly. Beyond creating a sense of community, it¼s vital to an event of this scope. THANKS!

The Region

The nearby towns include Erie, PA, Jamestown, Buffalo, Chautauqua, a resort area, Mayville, next largest town, and several very small towns including Sherman, and Findlay, NY.

Chautauqua has a large Lake and is a vacation area. There are many wineries in the Lake Chautauqua area with wonderful NY wines that rival California...and at great prices! There are also larger grocery stores and a K-Mart here.

Mayville, NY on Rt. 430 east of Sherman. Mayville has nearly every source for supplies and food for Starwood. Mayville has the only bank machine within an hour drive and has a large full-service grocery store, specialty stores and antiques. Just East (about 2 miles), past Mayville on Rt. 430 there is a large liquor and wine store with a huge variety of local wines. (Johnson Estates has a very deliciously fruity, semi-sweet Niagra and sweet, fruity Concord)

Sherman is the town head where Starwood is held. They greatly appreciate our business and help support Brushwood. Sherman is a tiny town located on Rt. 430 and County Road 15. There is a small, but very well stocked grocery, a True Value hardware store, a liquor store, bar, restaurant, pizza shop (that will deliver to Brushwood!), gas station and antique shops. We encourage folks to try there first if you need supplies.

Findlay is a small town located on Rt. 430 coming from the west. There is a small grocery and a pizza place. Findlay is dry, however, so don't plan to buy alcohol there. The one thing Findlay has is the back way into Brushwood: just take the first right after the giant Jesus...this is Bailey Hill road. You'll stop at two crossroads before the final stretch, where you'll see a large sign on the right.
