Madonna Moonhawk
Penny Goody Gompf has been an initiated member of the Sacred Dance Guild
since 1968. Following the teaching of Shehera, Gabrielle Roth, Aiyja, and
Suzanna Del Vecchio, she has devoted many years to the art of Dance
Oriental (belly dancing). Born of Amish parents, her hexerie traditions of
the Old Ways counter-balance New Age insights. A student of Stephen
Gaskin's Monday night classes in the late 1960's, she studied with Samuel
Lewis, learning the Sufi traditions of enlightenment through movement. A
presenter/coordinator of Kids' Village at Starwood, she encourages children
to explore their own magical ways. She is an adherent of the Church and
School of Wicca, and received her Doctorate of Divinity degree in 1990.
Now going into its twelfth year, Penny is Goodwife Goody Goody at the Ohio
Renaissance Festival, teaching ribbon dancing and selling her magical
crafts.
Together, Madonna and Penny teach:

Raised in a traditional Middle Eastern family, dance was a way of life. She
is experienced in Middle Eastern and Sufi dancing and as a member of the
Sacred Dance Guild, works with energy and the elements in ritual and dance.
An Invitation to Join the Sacred Dancer's Guild
Dance has been a ritualistic and sacred form of expression for
thousands of years. Its deep, primal, ancient roots allow non-verbal
expression of the ecstacy and beauty of Spirit manifest in flesh. Come
explore the correct manners, etiquette, mechanics and magic of the practice
of sacred dance. In this two-part workshop Madonna & Penny will teach
steps, movements, meditation & toning, and we will design and perform a
dance ritual in Part II. (If time permits, Penny will demonstrate ribbon
dancing.) Participants may choose to accept initiation into the Sacred
Dance Guild, and the responsibility of honoring Sacred Dance Circles & Fire
Dances, and mentoring younger dancers. Be prepared to vigorously stretch
and work. (All levels of ability welcome. Open hearts are more important
than athletic ability.) Bring comfortable clothes and shoes and water to
drink. Bring dance regalia for the ritual & initiation in Part II of the
workshop.
(aka Anomie) is a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point
Therapist, who has been practising this modality for over 2 years. A long
time friend of ACE and the Chameleon Club, she was introduced to Myotherapy
in 1985 and, after years of informal study and exploration, obtained formal
training and certification at The Academy for Myofascial Trigger Point
Therapy in Pittsburgh, PA.
Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy
Myofascial pain and dysfunction is a very common cause of chronic
pain. It usually goes undiagnosed by most doctors. The usual treatment is
rest and NSAIDs or other pain medications, physical therapy and sometimes
even surgery. None of these are the proper treatment for myofascial pain,
and all of them may damage the body. We will learn how to recognize
myofascial pain and how to treat some of the more common complaints that
interfere with the quality of life of so many people.
A stretch workshop utilizing the specific stretches used by Janet
Travell MD to reeducate the affected dysfunctional muscles that cause the
pain pattern. We will go over some of the more common pain causing muscles,
then look at some of the specific problems that the participants have. Wear
comfortable loose clothing. Attendance at the Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy class recommended but
not required - see above.
has been raised in the Sufi, Native American
and Nature Religion traditions. David received his Sufi name, Maumin
(faith), at birth from Sufi Surdil Amin. A natural intuitive and healer,
David finds that he expresses himself best through music. Whether
drumming, playing guitar, or playing the digeridoo, David reaches and helps
others reach the deepest meditative states through sound. A second degree
Reiki initiate, he often assists his mother, Madonna Moonhawk, in healing
work.
Sound Vibrational Healing Meditation
Sound has long been recognized as an important element in healing.
The most ancient forms of vibrational healing included drums and chant, and
these tools are still used to reach altered states for purposes of
enlightenment, healing and balancing energy. Sound is vibration; we feel it
in our bones, in our chest, throughout our bodies. As our bodies relate to
a scale of
light (rainbow), they also relate to a scale of tones which, when healthy,
resonate together harmoniously, and the application of sound can help usattain this harmonious resonance. Madonna and David will guide us in a light med
itation for healing with sound utilizing digeridoo, crystal singing bowl,
drums, rattles, chimes, voice and other instruments. Wear comfortable,
loose clothing and bring a blanket or cushion to lie on. You may also wish
to bring crystals, medicine bags or other healing tools.
We regret that Jim Klar will not be able to attend WinterStar
this year. He wishes us a good time, and hopes to see us at Starwood this
summer.
